Home learning Year 2
We hope you are all getting used to this new lock down again and hope that the children are ready to start some home learning! We will set out the lessons on a weekly timetable with links to videos and power points. There will be mainly word documents that you can print off for the children to write on or type directly onto. Do whatever you can! There is no expectation to do everything and we understand many of you are juggling your own work as well. We have based the learning around the topics we would have been doing had we been back in class:
Literacy - Writing and reading about polar animals and making links to Geography.
Maths - Multiplication and division. Introducing times tables - something good to be practising at home. Statistics - pictograms and tally charts. Using resources on the white rose hub website.
Geography - Wonderful world - Finding out about and locating the 7 continents and 5 oceans. Comparing hot and cold places in the world.
Science - Animals including humans. Children learn about how humans and other animals are born, grow and change, and what we need to survive and be healthy. Children classify different kinds of animal babies, learn about the basic needs that are shared by humans and animals, and research the differing needs of animals within our care. Focusing their own experiences, children explore the need for humans to eat a varied diet, to keep themselves clean, and to take regular exercise.
RE - Who is Jewish and what do they believe? Finding out about Jewish practices and beliefs.
There will also be Art, PE, ICT lessons and opportunities for children to discuss and debate news issues.
There will be a weekly zoom session at 9:30 every Tuesday morning. This session will be used to 'check in' and share news as well as talk about the learning we have set. We will also record two story times each week which we will either post on here or email to you for the children to enjoy at home (please note these will not be live sessions). We can't wait to hear and see all of your wonderful work. Please do email us as much as you like. Each week we will highlight three activities that we would particularly like to see the children's completed work and we will provide feedback on these.
There is also a log in and access to Oxford owls - which allows your child to read e books online. There is a wide variety of levels and types of books available. Some you will be familiar as they are books we send home. Choose a book appropriate for your child's ability.
Log in as a student.
We will still set weekly spellings so practice them with your child and test them as would normally be done in school.
Above all don't worry! The children had been making fantastic progress since September and we were impressed by their ability to adjust after the last lock down to being back in school. Please feel free to e mail us both about any concerns or worries.
Story time video with Mrs Ford - How to ride a polar bear. if you have trouble viewing the video it is saved on the Brentry School You tube channel.
We use Real PE in school to teach physical exercise. They have kindly set up a home learning portal for all parents to use at Brentry Primary. Have a look at their fantastic resources.
