For the next few weeks, we will just be focusing on mastering our 2s, 5s and 10s, using multiplication and division facts. I have attached the sheets that we test the children on every Friday; they have 3 minutes to complete it. There are also some games to help develop their times tables knowledge on 'TopMarks' and 'Times Tables Rock Stars'. Do have a look at 'Hit the button' for a bit of competitive times tables fun, see if your child can beat you!
Year 3 Spellings - Term 3 Week 1
The children will now be split into two groups for spellings, according to the level they are working at. They will be stuck in their books and must be practiced over the week, ready for a spelling test every Wednesday!

The spellings have changed for Year 3 this term as we are now following the way that the rest of KS2 learn. They are taught a rule or a sound that appears in the spelling and then the children will learn a number of those spellings. The children will then be tested on those words, plus a few extras following the same rule/sound. The children need to show that they can apply that rule. The children will be given the 6-8 words to learn, and are then expected to try and find as many other words following the same rule/sound as this. That way, they are more prepared when they have their spelling test, which is still on a Wednesday.
So far, this way of learning spellings has been very successful, the children excitedly anticipate the arrival of the 'surprise spellings' and are obviously less surprised if they have done their spelling homework.
Thank you to all parents/carers who practice spellings (and times tables) with the children each week, it makes a huge difference to not only their spelling test result, but to their confidence.
