Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEN/D)

 

At Brentry Primary School, we are committed to creating an inclusive environment where every child can achieve. Our SEN/D provision ensures that children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities receive the support and resources they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. We work closely with families, staff and external agencies to plan and implement the most appropriate provision to meet the needs of individual children.

Bristol Family Hubs : Offer information, advice and help to all families in Bristol. They run activities, parenting courses and also support you and your family to access services and information

Communication and Interaction Needs (including Autism)

Bristol Autism Support : a registered charity (1336327) which exists to provide support, advice and information to parents and carers of autistic children, diagnosed or suspected, in Bristol, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset and BaNES.

Bristol Autism Team : offer support for children with a diagnosis of autism, those on the autism pathway, and those with social, communication and interaction needs, and their families.

Family Learning Courses for Parents/Carers: courses for parents and carers of children who are:

  • autistic
  • waiting for an autism assessment
  • neurodiverse with social communication and interaction needs

National Autistic Society

Speech and Language Therapy : provide a toolkit of top tips and resources to support your child's speech and language development

Cognition and Learning Needs

If you would like to find out more about supporting your child with their cognition and learning, please speak to your child's class teacher or the SENCo. We will be able to support you with resources and strategies we use at school to support your child's academic progress.

Nessy: game-based programmes to develop children's reading and spelling skills (specifically designed for children with dyslexia)

Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH)

School Nursing Team : School Nurses work with children and their parents/carers to support their health and well-being. School Nurses provide support packages to support individual children with their Well-Being and Emotional Development.

Sensory and/or Physical Needs

Sensory Support Service : providing advice and support to ensure that all children and young people with sensory impairment have the best opportunities to learn, develop and grow.

Well Child Sensory Support Service: providing advice and support to children and young people with sensory impairment (hearing, vision, or multisensory impairment) from birth to 25 years of age, their families and educational settings.

Guide Dogs : providing services for children and young people with vision impairment and their families.

National Deaf Children's Society : providing free, independent support and information to deaf children and young people and their parents and carers

Cerebra: Supports families with children affected by a neurological condition including cerebral palsy, epilepsy and developmental delay

Council for Disabled Children: supporting disabled children to have full and happy childhoods, to fulfil their potential and be active within the community
