Pancake PE

For pancake day Year 1 themed their PE around flipping pancakes. Here they are having pancake races. What a great idea and lots of fun!

Netball

The Netball team played a friendly against Blaise in preparation for their upcoming tournament. They were superb! They all worked well as a team passing the ball around the court and scored some brilliant goals. They ended up winning 9-1! wow! Well done girls.

Dodgeball

This year we entered our first team into the St Bedes Dodgeball competition. The team worked really well together, working out tactics to get the opposition out. Lexi was a star catcher and Samuel's ducking and diving was amazing! We finished 2nd in our group and 6 out of 13 teams overall, for our first tournament we were all really proud!

Year 5/6 Football

Our Year 5/6 football team have been flying through the league. They are currently undefeated champions of the league with a goal difference of +45, wow! These lot are ones to watch, grab your autographs from them whilst you can!

New PE Curriculum

Welcome back everyone! This year we are introducing a new PE curriculum. It focuses on developing children's key skills from Reception to Year 6. This will be one lesson a week along with one games lesson. We think the children will love it and find it engaging and fun. Here are a few pictures of the teachers having a go themselves!

Sports Day

What a brilliant sports day this year. The children were all amazing and their sportsmanship was excellent. Thank you to all the parents who came to cheer the children on, you all provided a great atmosphere for them to compete. Thank you to POMs for providing refreshments, we certainly needed them with the sun shining!

Football Funday

Football Funday was a great success this year. Thank you for all of the children for playing in the heat you were all troopers! I felt everyone showed brilliant attitudes and had great team spirit. Thank you to all of the parents for support attending the event. We raised over £800 and we are still collecting in raffle money! Wow that's amazing. We will be splitting the money between each class and to purchase new PE equipment.

Most importantly a big well done to Riverpool for winning the tournament!

Cricket

The Year 3/4 cricket team attended the North Bristol cricket tournament. They were all fantastic and the enthusiasm from them all was inspiring. We played 3 matches which were all very exciting. Milo made a brilliant catch in game 2 that gave the team a big boost. Sabrina was our star batter hitting three 6's in a row! We all really enjoyed our first cricket matches and will hopefully be the first of many.

Mojo Active

On the last day of term we had the company Mojo Active come into school. They bought in a climbing wall, assault course and played team games with the children. All of us had a fantastic day and it was brilliant to see the children challenging themselves, working together and cheering each other on. The staff commented on how brilliant the children were and praised them for their positive attitudes and behaviour. Well done Team Brentry you were all fab!

Football

Well done to the Year 5/6 Football team. They worked hard all season and it payed off when they got to lift the trophy in the last week of term! Some very happy faces that day including their coach Mr Clarke laugh

Fitness Friday

Thank you to everyone who has joined in. It has been a great success and a lovely way to start the day. Don't forget to join us every Friday from 8.35-8.45 am.

Swimming

All swimming is now complete for the Year. The children have all made fantastic progress. To give you a brief overview in the current reception class all children were water  confident at the end of their sessions and gained their water safety badge 1. More than half of the class are swimming without armbands or a float.

In the current Year 6 class 85% of children can swim 25m or more and can self-save. This is above the national average.

At Brentry Primary School we use our sports Premium money to pay for Reception and KS1 to have swimming lessons (sports premium money can not be spent on KS2). This is currently Years R & 2 due to swimming pool ability. We fund 2 more classes out of the school budget to attend swimming lessons. Starting the children from a young age has shown to have a great improvement on our school attainment in swimming. At Brentry Primary School we feel it is of high importance that children have the opportunity to learn how to swim.

*If any parents would like any more information on Swimming Lessons out of school please come and ask Miss Millard.

Gymnastics

On the last Friday of term a team of 8 children entered the St Bede's gymnastic competition. This is run by the South Bristol Gymnastic group with over 200 pupils entering. The Brentry team were all fantastic. They all had to perform a routine individually to the judges and complete a vault. We placed 5th in the year 3/4 team and 4th in the year 5/6 team. I couldn't be prouder of them, great job girls!

Rugby

The Rugby team played in a tournament at St Bedes last week. Miss Garland said they played brilliantly and really worked hard as a team. They had 3 matches in total. The won one, drew one and lost one. We think they did Brentry proud. Great job guys.

Cricket

It has been lovely to welcome Charlie Thompson back into school this week. For those of you who remember Charlie he used to provide our School with PPA cover to teach PE. He was always a very popular member of staff with both the adults and children, it is great to have him back! Charlie is back this term to teach cricket to years 5, 4 and 3. From these classes he will be selecting children to train up for a cricket team. Next term Year 6 and Year 3 will get an opportunity to try cricket.

Football Scouts

Some of Ks1 and Reception have been lucky enough to have the opportunity to work with a football scout at lunchtimes. This week the children loved it and worked really hard to show off everything they could do. Keep up the hard work Brentry!

Jack Rutter

Jack Rutter the Paralympian visited us for an express workout session! We were all worn out by the end but loved the challenge. Jack gave us an inspirational speech which was extremely encouraging. The children were amazed at his story and it was lovely to hear them talking about the goals they have for themselves for the future. Thank you to everyone for helping us collect donations for the event. Half of the money will go towards Jack's future training and development and half will come back to the school for sport equipment. In total we collected am amazing £1,649.00 Wow! Thank you to everyone for your amazing donations.

Yoga

Years 1-6 are taking part in a block of Yoga throughout the year. We have learnt how to control our breathing and zen out! Ask your child if they have learnt any new moves they can teach you!
